Compensation of Nonlinear Fibre Impairments in Coherent Systems Employing Spectrally Efficient Modulation Formats

چکیده
We investigate electronic mitigation of linear and nonlinear fibre impairments and compare various digital signal processing techniques, including electronic dispersion compensation (EDC), single-channel back-propagation (SC-BP) and backpropagation with multiple channel processing (MC-BP) in a ninechannel 112 Gb/s PM-mQAM (m=4,16) WDM system, for reaches up to 6,320 km. We show that, for a sufficiently high local dispersion, SCBP is sufficient to provide a significant performance enhancement when compared to EDC, and is adequate to achieve BER below FEC threshold. For these conditions we report that a sampling rate of two samples per symbol is sufficient for practical SC-BP, without significant penalties. key words: Optical fibre communication, Nonlinear optics, Digital signal processing, coherent communication.

Digital Coherent Receivers and Advanced Optical Modulation Formats in 100 and 200 Gb/s DWDM Systems
Recent advances in coherent optical receivers is reviewed. Digital-Signal-Processing (DSP) based phase and polarization management techniques make coherent detection robust and feasible. With coherent detection, the complex field of the received optical signal is fully recovered, allowing compensation of linear and nonlinear optical impairments including chromatic dispersion (CD) and polarizati...

Complies with the regulations of this University and meets the accepted standards with respect to originality and quality. Coherent detection employing high modulation formats has become one of the most attractive technologies for long-haul transmission systems due to the high power and spectral efficiencies. Appropriate digital signal processing (DSP) is used to equalize and compensate for dis...
متن کاملSpectrally Shaped DP-16QAM Super-Channel Transmission with Multi-Channel Digital Back-Propagation
The achievable transmission capacity of conventional optical fibre communication systems is limited by nonlinear distortions due to the Kerr effect and the difficulty in modulating the optical field to effectively use the available fibre bandwidth. In order to achieve a high information spectral density (ISD), while simultaneously maintaining transmission reach, multi-channel fibre nonlinearity...
متن کاملEffect of Nonlinear Phase Variation in Optical Millimetre Wave Radio over Fibre Systems
In this paper, we propose an optical millimetre wave radio-over-fibre (mm-wave RoF) system that uses a dual drive Mach Zehnder modulator (DD-MZM), which is biased at the maximum transmission biasing point, to generate an optical double sideband-suppressed carrier. The input to the DD-MZM are binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8-phase shift keying (8-PSK) and...
متن کاملStudy of physical layer impairments in high speed optical networks
The work done in this thesis focuses on the impact of transmission impairments in high speed optical networks. Specifically it focuses on the impact of nonlinear impairments in long haul fiber optic data transmission. Currently deployed fiber optic transmission networks are running on NRZ OOK modulation formats with spectral efficiency of only 1 bit/symbol. To achieve spectral efficiency beyond...
